We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to provide field leadership and operational oversight across multiple active construction projects. This position may be based in either our Nashville, Tennessee, or Winston-Salem, North Carolina office and will require approximately 50–70% travel to project sites.
Position Summary
Long Foundation Drilling Co. is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee field operations across multiple active construction projects. This position may be based in Nashville, Tennessee, or Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and requires approximately 50–70% travel.
The Operations Manager will coordinate superintendents, crews, equipment, scheduling, safety, project readiness, and closeout activities. This individual will serve as the primary operational escalation contact for field leadership and will work closely with Project Managers, the Logistics Manager, safety personnel, and the Vice President of Operations.
Experience in deep foundations, drilled shafts, heavy civil construction, or electrical utility construction is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Review project scope, plans, specifications, schedules, and construction documents before mobilization.
- Conduct pre-job site visits and identify potential safety, access, utility, equipment, or scheduling concerns.
- Confirm that tooling, rebar, anchor bolts, materials, equipment, and other project resources are properly staged.
- Ensure required 811 utility-locate tickets are active and potholing or utility verification is complete.
- Coordinate crew assignments, equipment moves, permitting, deliveries, and mobilizations across multiple jobsites.
- Review two-week look-ahead schedules and proactively address staffing, equipment, and scheduling conflicts.
- Serve as the primary escalation contact for superintendents regarding field operations and project-execution issues.
- Conduct regular and unannounced jobsite visits to evaluate safety, productivity, workmanship, documentation, and crew performance.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and leadership regarding delays, cost impacts, changed conditions, personnel concerns, and potential change orders.
- Ensure work outside the contracted scope is identified and documented promptly.
- Monitor project progress, labor utilization, equipment usage, and field productivity.
- Enforce LFDC safety policies, PPE requirements, fall-protection requirements, lifting procedures, and required jobsite documentation.
- Coach and hold superintendents and field leaders accountable for safety, communication, productivity, documentation, and crew performance.
- Confirm required daily reports, pier reports, rock signoffs, inspections, photographs, and other project records are submitted accurately and on time.
- Oversee project demobilization, including rental-equipment return, site cleanup, documentation, customer signoff, and outstanding change-order communication.
- Work with Project Managers to support project closeout and final billing.
Qualifications
- At least seven years of construction operations, field management, project management, or superintendent experience.
- At least three years of experience leading superintendents, field crews, or multiple simultaneous projects.
- Experience in deep foundations, drilled shafts, heavy civil construction, geotechnical construction, or electrical utility construction preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, project scope, scheduling, safety, and field documentation.
- Proven ability to coordinate personnel, equipment, logistics, customers, and competing project priorities.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent field and leadership experience will be considered.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record required.
- Ability to travel approximately 50–70%, including overnight travel.
- Ability to respond outside normal business hours when project or operational conditions require it.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $105,000–$140,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
