Job Overview
Dudley Shoals Baptist Church is looking for someone to join our staff as a Ministry Assistant / Receptionist.
This person is often one of the first faces people see when they come into the church office and one of the first voices they hear when they call. Because of that, we’re looking for someone who loves people, is welcoming and dependable, stays organized, and wants to be part of what God is doing through our church.
This is more than simply answering the phone or working at a desk. Our Ministry Assistant helps our pastors, staff, ministry leaders, church members, and community stay connected and helps keep the day-to-day ministry of the church running smoothly.
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Answering phones, greeting visitors, and helping with the everyday needs of the church office
- Keeping our church calendar updated and helping coordinate building use and reservations
- Preparing our weekly bulletin, prayer list, and other church communications
- Helping with email, phone tree messages, and other church communication
- Providing administrative support to our pastors, deacons, children’s director, and other ministry leaders
- Keeping membership information and church records up to date
- Preparing baptism certificates and other church documents
- Assisting our Financial Secretary with routine financial and bookkeeping responsibilities
- Helping communicate with vendors, businesses, agencies, and others who work with the church
- Keeping up with important paperwork, inspections, renewals, and deadlines
- Helping with other office and ministry needs as they come up
We don't expect one person to do everything on their own. Our staff, Financial Secretary, ministry leaders, and church committees work together as a team. This position helps all of those pieces stay organized and connected.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Agrees with and is willing to support the beliefs and ministry of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church, including our Statement of Faith as derived from the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely enjoys working with people
- Is dependable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality
- Is organized and able to manage several responsibilities at once
- Is proficient and efficient with Google Calendar, Canva, and Microsoft Excel
- Is comfortable learning and using other church software and communication platforms
- Communicates well both in person and in writing
- Is willing to learn and help wherever needed
- Works well as part of a team with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, church members, and visitors
- Understands that working in a church office is more than a job—it is an opportunity to serve people and support the ministry and mission of the church
Previous experience in office administration, customer service, scheduling, church ministry, bookkeeping, or database management would be helpful.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
There may occasionally be a need to help outside of normal office hours for a church event or ministry need.
