Core Technical Skills
- Practical experience with hand and power tools (e.g., drill, saw, hammer, level, screwgun) and the ability to use them safely and efficiently.
- Basic carpentry and framing skills: measuring, cutting, and assembling timber, metal, or other building materials; installing doors, frames, blocking, and backing.
- Ability to interpret simple drawings, blueprints, sketches, or work orders and follow step-by-step instructions
- Competence in measuring, marking, and calculating dimensions accurately to ensure correct fit and alignment
- Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and fastening systems (screws, nails, bolts, adhesives).
- Ability to assist with installation and maintenance of fixtures, fittings, and basic building components
Physical and Operational Skills
- Good physical stamina and strength; ability to lift and carry materials (commonly up to ~20–25 kg / 50 lbs) and work in varied positions (standing, kneeling, reaching)
- Comfort working at heights, on scaffolding, or in confined spaces, and adapting to different site conditions (indoor, outdoor, heights, uneven surfaces)
- -strong attention to detail to ensure work is level, square, and correctly aligned.
- Ability to follow safety rules, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with site safety procedures.
- Basic problem-solving skills to identify simple faults and suggest practical solutions or adjustments.
Communication and workplace skills
- Clear verbal communication to report progress, ask for clarification, and coordinate with supervisors, other trades, and team members.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, including work orders and safety notices.
- Teamwork orientation: willing to support others, assist with shared tasks, and maintain a cooperative work environment.
- Reliability and punctuality, with a consistent attendance record and ability to meet scheduling needs (including overtime or shift work if required).
- Basic numeracy and literacy for reading measurements, quantities, and simple documentation.
