Why does the job exist?
The Lead Senior Engineering Technician will be the central point of contact and assists the Engineering Managers to support and streamline review processes. This role will lead and support a team of Engineering Technicians to optimize the process of increasing efficiency and better manage the high-volume public and internal communications. Incumbent will coordinate and evaluate temporary traffic control on state roadways within the district to ensure compliance in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and corresponds with the Public Information Officer (PIO) and the Permit Agent regarding issues and concerns with traffic and transportation.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities includes conducting field reviews of temporary traffic control used in construction of highways and bridges to assist the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) ensuring field work is in compliance with design plans and the MUTCD, coordinates and attends meetings with local agencies and stakeholders to assess design plans including temporary traffic control and facilitates work on state right-of-way, and performs maintenance of comprehensive permit database for reference and management of numerous projects. Additionally, the incumbent responds to a high-volume of inquiries from internal and external staff including the public.

Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office and some field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, and pollen. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, inclement weather, construction equipment and high-speed traffic. Work with nuclear devices; heights and confined spaces. toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, stressful situations; subject to falls and bruises, subject to irregular hours day or night, call out for emergencies and frequent temporary assignments that require in-state travel away from post of duty; may require extended hours and occasional travel. Heavy lifting: sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Possible geographic location change.
