Job Description:
We are seeking a Nutrition Assistant to join our team at Primrose School of Carol Stream. In this role, you will be critical in promoting healthy eating habits and ensuring the well-being of our young learners. You’ll collaborate with our kitchen team, educators, and parents to create a positive food environment that supports growth, development, and overall health. As the Nutrition Assistant, you’ll prepare delicious, nutritious food that helps fuel children as they explore, play, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Your dedication to quality will ensure we deliver on our mission of bringing the best and most trusted early childhood education and care to the families we serve. Responsibilities:
- Meal Planning and Preparation:
- Assist in planning nutritious meals and snacks for children based on dietary guidelines and individual needs.
- Prepare and serve meals in a safe and hygienic manner.
- Accommodate any special dietary requirements (allergies, cultural preferences, etc.).
- Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
- Follow food safety protocols, including proper storage, handling, and temperature control.
- Monitor expiration dates and rotate food supplies.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with parents to address any dietary concerns or preferences.
- Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding meal schedules and special events.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to program improvement.
- Menu Development:
- Collaborate with the Nutrition Lead team to create diverse and appealing menus.
- Introduce new foods and flavors to expand children’s palates.
- Ensure age-appropriate portion sizes.
- Nutrition Education:
- Educate children about the importance of balanced nutrition through age-appropriate activities.
- Engage in discussions about healthy food choices during mealtime.
- Foster positive attitudes toward fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of meals served, food inventory, and any incidents related to food allergies.
- Assist with documenting children’s food preferences and allergies.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to follow menu plans, portion sizes, and food preparation guidelines
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30–40 lbs
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work cooperatively with kitchen staff and school leadership
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
- Must live in the United States and be authorized to work.
