Make a meaningful difference in the life of a young student with complex needs as a dedicated Special Education Teacher. This unique contract position is based in Albany, New York, and provides 1:1 educational instruction to a medically fragile 7-year-old student currently residing in a nursing home. You'll play a crucial role in delivering a supportive, tailored learning environment while working closely with healthcare professionals and care staff.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification required
- Demonstrated experience working with students who have significant medical or physical needs
- Ability to adapt curriculum for individualized instruction
- Comfort collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (nursing staff, therapists, school liaisons)
- Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with individualized education plans (IEPs) and data collection preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, compassionate 1:1 academic instruction for 2-3 hours daily, directly at the nursing home location
- Adapt lesson plans and instructional materials based on the student’s medical, cognitive, and physical needs
- Coordinate with medical professionals and support staff to ensure safety and holistic care
- Maintain thorough documentation of progress and learning outcomes
- Communicate regularly with families, school-based teams, and supervisors regarding instructional strategies and student achievements
