Position Overview
The VDC Electrical Design Coordinator (Electrical BIM Detailer) is responsible for developing detailed coordination drawings and models for electrical pathways and equipment, including underground, above-ground, underfloor, overhead, ceiling, and electrical room applications.
This role works closely with multiple disciplines to coordinate electrical systems, identify potential conflicts, and develop accurate models and shop drawings to support construction and prefabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret construction documents, blueprints, specifications, and project requirements.
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models for conduits, cable tray, and electrical equipment based on project specifications and design documents.
- Apply knowledge of electrical construction principles, products, and installation methods.
- Coordinate architectural, civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical designs.
- Create schematic and detailed-level BIM models for electrical systems.
- Perform clash detection using Navisworks Manage and identify conflicts between trades.
- Develop shop drawings consistent with prefabrication guidelines and project standards.
- Read and interpret floor plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.
- Identify conflicts, incomplete information, and ambiguous design details and communicate issues appropriately.
- Create and maintain Revit family/library components as needed.
- Apply knowledge of drawing standards, including layering and line weights.
- Work productively with limited daily supervision while following general direction on new assignments.
- Support BIM coordination and construction planning throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of commercial electrical construction experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD; AutoCAD MEP experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks.
- Prior electrical construction experience is required.
- High school diploma, GED, or associate degree/diploma.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection.
- Understanding of electrical design fundamentals and construction installation methods.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and specialty systems drawings.
- Strong understanding of construction documents and coordination processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Revit, AutoCAD, or Navisworks AEC certifications.
- Experience with electrical prefabrication and shop drawing development.
- Experience coordinating electrical systems within complex commercial construction projects.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
