Position: Disability Coordinator (Head Start Program)

Semcac is a community action agency dedicated to strengthening individuals and families across Southeast Minnesota. Our Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive services that support school readiness and family well-being.
Position Summary
Semcac is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Disability Coordinator to lead and coordinate disability services within our Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
In this role, you will ensure compliance with federal regulations while supporting inclusive learning environments and helping children with developmental needs thrive.
Key Responsibilities: Program Coordination & Leadership
- Lead and coordinate disability services across Head Start and Early Head Start programs
- Ensure timely screening, identification, and referral of children with potential disabilities
- Coordinate evaluations, eligibility determinations, and required documentation
Family & Staff Support
- Partner with families and ensure protection of parent rights
- Promote inclusive classroom practices
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to staff
- Support transitions into and out of Head Start programs
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, IDEA, ADA, and other regulations
- Maintain accurate records and complete required reporting (PIR, quarterly, annual reports)
- Contribute to strategic planning, program assessments, and service improvements
Community Collaboration
- Build and maintain partnerships with community agencies and service providers
- Coordinate resources and services to support children and families
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or related field
- Experience working with children with disabilities in early childhood or school settings
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and IDEA
- Strong organization, data tracking, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experienced in training and supporting staff preferred
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel between program sites
- CPR/First Aid certification within 3 months of hire
- Ability to pass the required background study
