JOB PURPOSE: Performs responsible work to carry out the Pueblo of Pojoaque policies and procedures relating to a wide variety of programs and activities as directed by the Director of Tribal Works. This position performs tasks involving the tribal water distribution system and waste water. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Installs water lines and sewer lines; disconnects service lines; installs and removes fire hydrants; installs and repairs valves. Maintains daily water chlorination residuals and equipment.
Maps and diagrams water locations; logs jobs completed.
Will be trained to operate specialized equipment, such as dump truck, backhoe, and front-end loader and bob cat.
Checks vehicles to insure proper and safe operation; performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs; reports mechanical problems to supervisor or lead worker.
Assists in general water meter maintenance activities such as installation, removal, and repair
Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
Performs materials handling and storage.
Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
Assists in bringing problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director or Supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Working knowledge of proper water works plumbing methods and techniques; working knowledge of light and some heavy equipment operating principles, practices and procedures; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the tribal water department; working knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and repair functions
Skills in the operation of a variety of light and some heavy equipment as well as skills in operating a variety of hand tools
Team work oriented
Good verbal and written communication skills
Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Basic computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics etc.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
