Job Description:
We’re looking for an equipment operator for our heavy duty diesel forklift to move large, extra heavy, irregular loads of lumber in our lumber yard.
This role is for someone who understands that moving material is only part of the job. The right person sees the bigger picture: inventory accuracy, product rotation, and making smart decisions that keep operations running smoothly.
If you take pride in safety, precision, think ahead, and treat inventory like it’s your responsibility—not just something you move—you are the person we need.
What You’ll Do
- Operate a diesel forklift in a busy lumber yard environment (indoor and outdoor forklift operation)
- Safely handle large, extra heavy, irregular loads (lumber and similar materials)
- Manage product placement with inventory accuracy and rotation in mind
- Use handheld scanners and systems to track material movement in real time
- Make independent, judgment-based decisions that directly impact inventory integrity
- Load, unload, band, and organize materials to maintain an efficient yard flow
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Work both independently and as part of a coordinated team
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience operating a forklift with control, precision, and awareness—not just movement - we do an assessment of your lift abilities so be prepared to show us what you've got!
- Experience handling oversized or irregular loads (lumber experience strongly preferred) moving material inside on smooth surfaces and outdoor on uneven, irregular terrain.
- Strong understanding of inventory processes (tracking, placement, rotation, accuracy)
- Experience using scanning equipment and inventory systems
- Ability to think ahead and make sound decisions without constant direction
- Solid work history that demonstrates reliability and increasing responsibility
- Comfortable with physical work (lifting up to 70 lbs; not a sit-down-only role)
- Commitment to safety, accountability, and doing the job right the first time
What Sets You Apart
- You notice when something is off—and fix it before it becomes a problem
- You understand that poor inventory decisions create downstream issues
- You don’t just move product—you manage it
