Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and efficiency of our food distribution facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that the warehouse, cold storage areas, equipment, utilities, and building systems operate reliably and meet food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate has experience managing facilities in a wholesale food, cold storage, warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment and understands the importance of uptime, cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacility Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance of the building, warehouse, offices, loading docks, refrigeration systems, freezers, coolers, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical systems, and general infrastructure.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment and facility systems.
- Respond quickly to facility issues that may impact operations, food safety, employee safety, or customer service.
- Manage repairs, service calls, inspections, and vendor work.
- Ensure loading docks, storage areas, parking areas, and common spaces are clean, safe, and operational.
Refrigeration & Cold Storage
- Monitor cold storage equipment, temperature controls, and freezer/cooler performance.
- Ensure refrigeration systems are maintained to protect product quality and prevent spoilage.
- Coordinate emergency repairs for refrigeration failures or temperature deviations.
- Support compliance with temperature monitoring and documentation procedures.
Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance
- Support compliance with FDA, USDA, local health department, OSHA, HACCP, GMP, and company food safety standards as applicable.
- Work with operations and quality assurance teams to maintain sanitation standards throughout the facility.
- Ensure pest control, waste disposal, cleaning programs, and facility inspections are completed properly.
- Maintain records for maintenance, inspections, service agreements, and regulatory compliance.
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Source, schedule, and manage outside vendors, contractors, repair technicians, cleaning crews, pest control providers, security services, and equipment service providers.
- Review vendor performance, pricing, and service quality.
- Ensure contractors follow company safety, sanitation, and access policies while onsite.
Safety & Risk Management
- Identify and correct safety hazards throughout the facility.
- Support OSHA compliance, workplace safety programs, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and security procedures.
- Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to inspect for risks, damage, leaks, equipment issues, blocked exits, or sanitation concerns.
- Assist with incident investigations related to facility or equipment issues.
Budgeting & Planning
- Develop and manage the facilities maintenance budget.
- Track repair costs, utility expenses, maintenance supplies, and vendor spending.
- Recommend capital improvements, equipment upgrades, energy efficiency projects, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Plan facility improvements to support operational growth and efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Supervise maintenance staff, janitorial staff, or facility support personnel as assigned.
- Train team members on safety procedures, maintenance tasks, equipment care, and sanitation requirements.
- Prioritize daily work orders and ensure timely completion of facility-related tasks.
- Communicate clearly with operations, warehouse, transportation, quality assurance, and leadership teams.
QualificationsRequired
- 3–5+ years of facilities management, maintenance management, or building operations experience.
- Experience in food distribution, wholesale food, cold storage, warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or a similar operational environment.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, lighting, dock equipment, material handling equipment, and general building systems.
- Understanding of workplace safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to manage vendors, budgets, schedules, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to urgent operational issues.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours when needed, including occasional nights, weekends, or emergency calls.
Preferred
- Experience with refrigerated warehouses, food safety audits, HACCP, GMP, OSHA, or health department inspections.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Forklift, OSHA, refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, or facilities certifications are a plus.
- Experience with CMMS/work order software is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb ladders, and inspect facility areas throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in warehouse, cooler, and freezer environments as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to respond to urgent facility issues in fast-paced operating conditions.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
