In the 26-bed 6400 Behavioral Health Unit at Akron General, caregivers progressively involve patients in their care plans, allowing them to work toward an increased self-responsibility and independence. Through medication and various therapies, they learn to rebuild their ability to fulfill daily living activities and cope with challenges. As a Nurse Technician in this unit, you will assist with direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN.
A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. You must work a minimum of 64 hours within the summer months.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN.
- Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.
- Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire
- Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
- Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $20.75
Maximum hourly: $20.75
