The Grader Mechanic II is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and performance optimization of egg grading equipment and related processing machinery. This role supports smooth egg washing, grading, and packaging operations by troubleshooting equipment issues, completing preventative maintenance, and fine-tuning machinery for maximum efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited supervision, the Grader Mechanic III will:
- Respond promptly to maintenance and processing leadership requests for equipment repairs to minimize downtime and support efficient operations.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on egg grading machines and related processing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical, electrical, and electronic control issues.
- Fine-tune grader equipment to improve machine performance, processing efficiency, and product quality.
- Collaborate with processing leadership to improve standard operating procedures, operator efficiency, and equipment performance.
- Work effectively with Quality Assurance Technicians and USDA Graders to support food safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Visually inspect equipment to identify potential safety hazards, worn parts, or issues that may affect operators or production.
- Inspect, order, and install replacement parts as needed.
- Assist with the installation of new equipment.
- Maintain required inventory of greases, oils, and supplies used for preventative maintenance.
- Attend grader technical training or equipment schools as offered.
- Continuously develop knowledge of equipment maintenance, repair methods, and best practices.
- Perform and document preventative maintenance tasks and completed work orders.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work area.
- Prioritize and complete assigned job tasks and work orders efficiently and within required timelines.
- Maintain effective two-way communication with management and team members.
- Act as a team player by respecting, supporting, and encouraging co-workers.
- Share knowledge with other mechanics to support troubleshooting and skill development.
- Show flexibility by cross-training within the department and assisting with maintenance and repair work in other qualified areas as needed.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with company policies, work rules, and applicable federal and state laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Working knowledge of egg grader machinery and related processing equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve basic mechanical and electrical problems.
- Basic knowledge across multiple maintenance areas.
- Working knowledge of electronic controls.
- Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
