Make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients receiving cancer care at Hilo Benioff Medical Center’s Cancer Clinic. As a Clinic Receptionist, you will play an essential role in supporting patients, families, physicians, and nurse practitioners by ensuring smooth clinic operations, coordinating appointments and procedures, and providing compassionate, professional service throughout the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:

Greet, register, and assist patients at check-in while verifying patient identification, insurance information, and required documentation.

Schedule clinic appointments, diagnostic imaging, special procedures, and return visits across multiple electronic medical record systems.

Prepare patient charts and ensure referrals, prior authorizations, insurance information, forms, and billing documentation are complete and current.

Provide exceptional customer service by answering and triaging telephone calls, responding to patient concerns, providing appointment instructions and reminders, and assisting with patient flow.

Process outpatient payments, maintain accurate financial and medical records, and assist patients with financial needs, including payment plans when appropriate.

Coordinate referrals and patient transfers, maintain clinic supplies and records, assist with staff training and orientation, and perform general clerical and administrative duties.
Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

General Experience: Two (2) years of responsible clerical or administrative experience demonstrating knowledge of office procedures, customer service, and basic computer skills

Specialized Experience (II level): In addition to the General Experience, six (6) months of work experience performing clerical duties including patient registration, scheduling, data entry and medical records handling in a healthcare or clinic setting

Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and commitment to excellent customer service

Typing: Preferred ability to type at a net speed of 40 words per minute with accuracy
Substitution of Education for General Experience: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required.

- Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
