Overview:
The Lead Product Manager will be passionate about the Planet Fitness member’s workout and wellness experience and building out digital experiences that support our members’ health and wellness outcomes, such as supporting the member’s in-club workout experience through technology, as well as driving member satisfaction, revenue, and retention through other digital fitness features. The Lead Product Manager is charged with leading high performing cross-functional development teams, focusing on achieving aggressive growth goals for member engagement and retention.
Working within dedicated PODs, the Lead Product Manager partners closely with Engineering, UX Design, Analytics, Marketing, Operations, and other business stakeholders to bring new product features from concept through launch. The Lead Product Manager is highly execution-oriented, balancing customer needs, business priorities, and technical feasibility while ensuring teams deliver high-quality products on time.
This role is ideal for someone who has built consumer-facing mobile applications within retail, subscription, or digital consumer businesses and enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve real customer problems. Experience supporting fitness, health, wellness, or lifestyle applications is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Product Execution & Delivery
- Owns execution of the Workout & Wellness product roadmap, delivering new features and enhancements that improve member engagement, workout experiences, and long-term retention.
- Leads product development from discovery through launch, including opportunity identification, requirements definition, prioritization, sign-offs, user acceptance testing, launch readiness, and post-launch optimization.
- Leads and actively participates in Agile sprint ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, to align cross-functional teams and drive successful product delivery.
- Writes detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, product requirements, and feature documentation that enable successful development and delivery.
- Champions an MVP-first mindset by identifying the highest-value product solutions that balance member experience, business value, and technical feasibility.
- Drives timely decision-making throughout development while proactively removing obstacles and resolving competing priorities.
Member Experience & Product Innovation
- Develops a deep understanding of Planet Fitness member behaviors, motivations, and workout journeys through research, analytics, usability testing, and surveys.
- Synthesizes quantitative and qualitative insights into opportunity hypotheses, product strategy, and prioritized roadmap investments.
- Manages research and testing, e.g. surveys, concept testing, clickstream data, and A/B testing. Transforms insights into opportunity hypotheses and product requirements.
- Identifies opportunities to create engaging workout experiences that support members both inside and outside the club.
- Partners with UX Design teams to ensure intuitive, user-centered digital experiences that reflect Planet Fitness' brand and member expectations.
- Monitors emerging trends in digital fitness, wellness, mobile technology, and consumer behavior to identify new product opportunities and help inform long-term product strategy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serves as the primary product representative within dedicated PODs and partners closely with Engineering, UX Design, Analytics, Marketing, and Operations.
- Collaborates with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize requests, and align product development with organizational objectives.
- Works effectively across multiple departments to ensure successful feature launches, operational readiness, and member adoption.
- Builds strong relationships across the organization while influencing decisions without direct authority.
- Communicates product priorities, timelines, risks, and progress clearly with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Product Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Defines success metrics and partners with Strategy and Analytics to establish KPIs for new features and product enhancements.
- Measures product success through engagement, activation, retention, conversion, and customer satisfaction.
- Provides product leadership across multiple PODs.
- Uses quantitative and qualitative insights to prioritize future enhancements and continuously improve product performance.
- Evaluates business opportunities and develops supporting business cases for new initiatives and product investments.
- Partners with Product Leadership to improve product development processes, Agile practices, and speed-to-market across teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field required
- 5+ years of Product Management experience delivering consumer-facing digital products, including mobile applications
- Experience developing mobile applications within retail, consumer technology, subscription, eCommerce, or digital consumer businesses strongly preferred
- Experience supporting fitness, health, wellness, or lifestyle applications preferred
- Demonstrated success working as the Product Manager within a dedicated Agile POD alongside Engineering, Design, and QA teams
- Strong experience translating business objectives into product requirements, user stories, and prioritized backlogs
- Proven ability to manage products through the complete product development lifecycle from discovery through launch
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and balancing competing priorities across multiple business functions
- Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies, Scrum ceremonies, and iterative product delivery
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, Figma, or similar product development tools.
- Strong understanding of customer research, experimentation, usability testing, analytics, and product performance measurement
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
- Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives, including managing aggressive deadlines
- Excellent presentation and verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to persuasively communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, including internal and external stakeholders, agency partners, and cross-functional partners

The salary for NH-based and MA-based employees hired into this role will be aligned with the range below. This is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with a candidate’s professional experience, qualifications and internal equity.
Annual Base Salary Range: $160,000-$180,000
