Position Summary
AMG-Bethel is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Set-Up Technician to support our precision machining operations. This hands-on role is responsible for performing complete machine set-ups, supporting production personnel, troubleshooting machining issues, and ensuring production meets quality, delivery, and efficiency objectives.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and experienced in working within a high-mix, tight-tolerance manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in supporting production throughput while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Set-Up & Operation
- Perform complete CNC lathe set-ups, including tooling installation, offsets, fixturing, and program verification.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, job travelers, and work instructions to ensure accurate machine set-up and production.
- Prove out new and repeat jobs to obtain first-piece approval and production readiness.
- Load, edit, and verify CNC programs as required.
- Select and maintain proper tooling while monitoring tool wear and tool life.
- Verify machine readiness and ensure equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
Production Support
- Support CNC operators during production runs.
- Monitor machine performance and make offset adjustments as required.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues.
- Ensure parts meet dimensional, cosmetic, and surface finish requirements.
- Maintain production flow to support customer delivery commitments and production schedules.
- Assist in reducing downtime through proactive problem-solving and process improvements.
Quality & Documentation
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and related tools.
- Verify product conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Document setup parameters, inspection results, and production records accurately.
- Support corrective actions and root cause investigations related to machining and quality issues.
- Follow AS9100 quality standards, inspection procedures, and company policies.
Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, tooling performance, machine utilization, and process efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 6S principles.
- Follow all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies, PPE requirements, and safe work practices.
- Support cross-training initiatives and collaborate with team members across departments.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on quality, productivity, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC lathe set-up experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and related inspection tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues independently.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, or precision manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
- Multi-axis CNC lathe experience.
- CNC programming and editing experience using Fanuc or similar controls.
- Technical machining certification, trade school training, or apprenticeship experience.
- Experience with continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or 6S initiatives.
