The General Manager is the leader of the restaurant who directs the daily operations of a restaurant and consistently delivers an exceptional guest and employee experience; leads and develops the front of house (FOH) and back of house (BOH) teams while fostering our Culture of Caring. The GM focuses on guest service, staff development, cost management and profitability, creating an environment that is conducive to providing an outstanding dining experience for the guest and a symbiotic workplace that is committed to growth and development of its employees. The GM drives the culture and the brand in the local community. Engaging with local businesses, charities, local community leaders and educational outlets to immerse the business in driving awareness, becoming the employer of choice, and delivering growth to top line revenues while embodying our core values in the communities we serve. General Manager Key Accountabilities and Performance Indicators
Overall Vision – Business and Marketing Objectives
- Ensure alignment with the restaurant’s vision and goals through strategic planning and execution.
- Work with ownership to develop and implement marketing initiatives that drive revenue and customer engagement.
- Drive initiatives to position the restaurant as the top-rated dining establishment in Oakland, California.
- Performance Indicator: Quarterly business review demonstrating alignment with financial goals, marketing effectiveness, and PR engagement.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth service and optimal efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with local health, safety, and labor laws.
- Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all departments.
- Performance Indicator: Compliance with all regulations, and operational efficiency metrics.
Service Quality and Guest Experience
- Ensure proper execution of service sequences and high levels of guest engagement.
- Create unique, authentic guest experiences tailored to customer preferences.
- Maintain high service standards to support the goal of becoming the top-rated restaurant in Oakland, CA.
- Performance Indicator: Guest satisfaction scores consistently above 4.7 OT rating and increased repeat customer rate.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Mentor, train, and oversee all management and staff members to promote a high-performance culture.
- Lead team meetings to communicate goals, expectations, and company updates.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities for all employees.
- Performance Indicator: Completed training programs for all new hires, and documented performance reviews.
Human Resources and Employee Development
- Manage hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and HR-related concerns.
- Handle grievances, performance management, and disciplinary actions in compliance with labor laws.
- Partner with the management team to create a positive and productive work environment.
- Performance Indicator: Successful conflict resolutions, and timely completion of HR-related documentation.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health codes, and industry regulations.
- Performance Indicator: Zero major violations in health and labor inspections, documented risk mitigation strategies, and proactive handling of potential risks.
Financial Oversight and Reporting
- Conduct financial analysis, reporting, and performance evaluation.
- Monitor labor, cost of goods sold (COGS), and overall operational expenses.
- Performance Indicator: Meeting or exceeding budget goals, maintaining labor and food costs within target percentages, and timely financial reporting.
Cash Handling and Inventory Management
- Oversee all cash handling procedures and maintain financial accountability.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts for FOH materials (flatware, plates, glassware, linens, etc.).
- Performance Indicator: Zero discrepancies in financial audits, accurate inventory records, and cost-effective inventory management.
Maintenance and Facility Management
- Manage all maintenance needs, including HVAC, plumbing, and kitchen equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors for regular maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Performance Indicator: 100% compliance with maintenance schedules, minimized downtime due to equipment failure.
Leadership Team Development
- Set management schedules and delegate responsibilities efficiently.
- Conduct weekly management meetings and performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of team collaboration and accountability.
- Performance Indicator: Well-documented coaching sessions, a cohesive and motivated management team, and positive employee feedback.
Budget and Profitability Goals
- Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure financial stability.
- Maintain budgeted revenues, cost of sales, labor, and operational cash flow (OCF).
- Performance Indicator: Meeting profitability goals, maintaining cost efficiencies, and reducing unnecessary expenses.
