Responsibilities
- Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, to remove plaque, tartar, and stains effectively.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and reviewing medical records to inform treatment plans.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term oral health.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, treatment notes, and medical records within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and infection control measures, to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
Requirements
- Valid licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations.
- Proven experience in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry settings, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with dental software platforms such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for charting and record management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation.
- Ability to perform dental x-rays accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance and safeguarding patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration; experience in client communication is highly valued.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention standards, including infection control practices and aseptic techniques.
