Yard Associate
Location: Sanford, NC
Shift: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Yard Associate to join our team in Sanford, NC. This position involves operating a sit-down forklift in an outdoor yard environment to safely load, unload, and move heavy materials. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a sit-down forklift (8,000–15,000 lb capacity) to move, load, and unload materials
- Safely handle and transport heavy and oversized items
- Load and unload trucks efficiently while maintaining proper weight balance and load security
- Inspect materials for damage and ensure accurate handling of inventory
- Maintain a clean and organized yard area
- Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and company policies
- Perform routine forklift inspections and report any maintenance issues
- Assist with general yard duties as needed such as wrapping, palletizing, and banding material together
Requirements
- Prior experience operating a sit-down forklift (required)
- Experience handling heavy loads (8,000–15,000 lb capacity preferred)
- Ability to lift, carry, move heavy materials regularly, and perform yard duties
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to work early morning shifts and maintain punctual attendance
- Basic understanding of load balancing and safe material handling practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in lumber, construction materials, or outdoor yard environments
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60+ lbs repeatedly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions for extended periods
