<Overview>
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of our national growing snow removal and winter services company. This role will be responsible for managing accounting processes, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow across seasonal and year-round operations. The ideal candidate understands the nature of the snow/construction/landscape industries and can ensure accurate job costing, equipment tracking, and payroll management during high-volume storm events. This position works closely with ownership and operations leadership to provide financial insight, maintain strong internal controls, and support strategic decision-making as the company continues to expand.
<Responsibilities>
- Support leadership with financial analysis and reporting to assist with strategic decision-making.
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing using advanced financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure financial processes are accurate, efficient, and scalable.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements pertinent to non-profit and governmental organizations.
- Lead the preparation of accurate financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and regulatory filings to support transparency and accountability.
- Oversee equipment purchasing, leasing, and financing while maintaining accurate asset tracking and depreciation schedules for a large fleet of equipment.
- Conduct detailed account analysis and balance sheet reconciliation to verify the integrity of financial data.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, cash management strategies, and account reconciliation processes to optimize liquidity and financial stability.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to uphold financial integrity and prevent discrepancies or fraud.
- Collaborate with auditors during external audits, ensuring all documentation is complete and audit findings are addressed promptly.
- Drive budgeting processes by developing forecasts that align with organizational goals while maintaining strict adherence to financial concepts such as debits & credits and double-entry bookkeeping.
<Skills>
- Extensive experience with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and other financial management tools.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance standards, and governmental accounting practices.
- Proven ability in financial report writing, account reconciliation, and regulatory reporting for non-profit organizations.
- Expertise in cash management strategies, budget development, forecasting techniques, and technical accounting principles.
- Skilled in account analysis, general ledger reconciliation, payroll processing, and accounts payable/receivable management.
- Excellent understanding of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and account reconciliation procedures.
- Demonstrated analytical skills with a focus on financial analysis that supports strategic decision-making.
