The Western Alliance for Reclamation Management (WARM) is a nonprofit consortium based at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, with programming across the U.S. West. Founded in 2018, WARM prepares the next generation of mine reclamation professionals, restoring lands and waters impacted by legacy mining while expanding economic opportunity in rural communities. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will serve full-time in Gunnison, supporting capacity-building efforts and developing materials for grant writing, partnership development, volunteer coordination, and workforce program expansion. The member will develop curriculum and frameworks for scholarships, fellowships, and training opportunities that connect students and community members—especially those from underserved backgrounds—to environmental careers. WARM seeks candidates with strong communication, organization, and writing skills; initiative; and an interest in environmental restoration, workforce development, or rural community impact. Ideal candidates are adaptable, collaborative, and committed to service. This is a year-long AmeriCorps VISTA position (typical term: 12 months; exact dates provided upon selection). To learn more, visit WARM or AmeriCorps VISTA program listings. Gunnison offers a close-knit rural community with access to public lands, hiking, skiing, and rafting.
