The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is one of the nation’s leading history museums and the most visited historic site in North Texas. Located within the historic Texas School Book Depository, the Museum preserves and shared the story of President John F. Kennedy, the assassination of President Kennedy, and the enduring legacy of the 1960s through exhibitions, educational programming, collection and public engagement.
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, The Sixth Floor Museum has a growing collection of archival materials, photographs, films and three-dimensional objects that preserve one of the most significant moments in American history. As the Museum continues to invest in its collections, this position offers an exciting opportunity to help steward these resources while contributing to the new exhibitions, acquisitions and long-term preservation initiatives.
The Opportunity
The Sixth Floor Museum seeks a detailed-oriented and collaborative Registrar to support the care, documentation and stewardship of the Museum’s permanent collection.
Reporting to the Head of Collections & Registration, the Registrar plays a critical role in maintaining accurate collections records, coordinating object movement, supporting exhibitions, processing acquisitions and loans and ensuring the Museum collections are managed to professional museum standards.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, enjoys solving complex logistical challenges and is committed to preserving history through exceptional collection management.
Key Responsibilities
Collection Management

Maintain accurate collection records and documentation within the Museum’s collections management system.
- Process acquisitions, accessions, catalog records and object updates.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing loans, shipping and object movements.
- Assist with inventory projects and collections audits.
- Support collections storage, environmental monitoring and preservation initiatives.
Exhibition & Object Care
- Coordinate object movement, installation and deinstallation for exhibitions.
- Prepare and maintain condition reports and exhibition documentation.
- Ensure proper handling, packing and transportation of collection objects.
- Collaborate with Curatorial, Exhibitions and conservation professionals throughout project planning and implementation.
Professional Practice
- Maintain registration procedures consistent with museum standards and best practices.
- Assist researchers and support internal access to collections.
- Contribute to collections policies, documentation projects and departmental initiatives.
- Work collaboratively across departments to support Museum’s mission.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, American Studies or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Three or more years of registrar or collections management experience in a museum setting.
- Experience working with a collections management database, preferably TMS.
- Knowledge of registration standards, collections documentation and object handling procedures.
- Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to details.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with history collections.
- Experience supporting exhibition and gallery installations.
- Familiarity with museum environmental monitoring and integrated pest management.
Compensation and Benefits
This position is full-time and exempt. Compensation is commensurate with experience and aligned with internal compensation structure. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
