What You'll Do
As an Estimator, you'll play a critical role in securing the projects that drive our business. Working alongside operations, engineering, and executive leadership, you'll develop competitive and accurate estimates for heavy civil and infrastructure construction.
Your responsibilities include:
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using digital estimating software
- Develop complete cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and self-performed work
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities
- Prepare bid proposals and supporting documentation
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and occasional site visits
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field personnel
- Maintain historical pricing databases and productivity information
- Assist with project budgeting and turnover after award

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving construction challenges and has a passion for estimating.
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent field experience)
- 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods
- Experience reading plans and specifications
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Excellent organization and time management
- Ability to prioritize multiple bid deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Software Experience
Experience with one or more of the following:
- Bluebeam Revu
- Adobe Acrobat
- On-Screen Takeoff
- HCSS HeavyBid
- Bid2Win
- AGTEK
- Microsoft Excel
Government Construction Experience (Preferred)
Experience estimating projects for agencies such as:
- NJDOT
- New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA)
- NJ Transit
- Port Authority of NY & NJ
- County and Municipal Public Works
- NJDEP
- Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
- Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, public bidding procedures, bonding requirements, and government procurement processes is highly desirable.
