TITLE: Music Instructor

Primary Function
The Part-Time Music Instructor provides engaging, high-quality music instruction that inspires creativity, builds musical knowledge and skills, and encourages self-expression among Club members. The instructor plans and facilitates hands-on music experiences that introduce youth to vocal and instrumental music, rhythm, music appreciation, composition, and performance while fostering confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Working collaboratively with the Program Director and other Youth Development Professionals, the Music Instructor helps ensure members experience dynamic arts programming that supports creativity, communication, discipline, and personal growth in alignment with the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County's mission to empower all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare Youth for Success
- Plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate music lessons for elementary, middle, and high school youth as assigned.
- Teach the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, notation, and music theory appropriate to participants' ages and skill levels.
- Provide instruction in vocal music, percussion, keyboard, guitar, or other instruments based on program offerings and instructor expertise.
- Introduce members to a variety of musical genres, cultures, traditions, and historical influences to foster appreciation for diverse musical experiences.
- Encourage creativity through songwriting, improvisation, composition, movement, and collaborative music-making activities.
- Develop members' listening, performance, and presentation skills through individual and group instruction.
- Prepare members for performances, showcases, community events, and Club celebrations as appropriate.
- Teach proper care, handling, and storage of musical instruments and equipment.
- Maintain music classrooms, rehearsal spaces, instruments, technology, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Monitor inventory of instruments, sheet music, supplies, and equipment and communicate needs to the Program Director.
- Collaborate with other program staff to integrate music into multidisciplinary projects, cultural celebrations, and Club-wide events.
- Maintain active supervision of members at all times and consistently implement Club behavior expectations and safety procedures.
- Complete attendance records, activity documentation, incident reports, and other required program documentation accurately and on time.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Club operations and member success.
Skills and Knowledge
- Passion for teaching music and working with children and teens.
- Strong proficiency in one or more musical disciplines (vocal and/or instrumental).
- Working knowledge of music theory and age-appropriate instructional techniques.
- Ability to lead both individual and group music instruction.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction for varying ages, abilities, and learning styles.
- Experience using music technology, digital recording, or music production software is preferred.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience teaching music, directing ensembles, providing private instruction, or leading youth music programs preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass all required background screenings.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, conduct instruction, and actively supervise youth for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, move, and transport musical instruments and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to demonstrate musical instruments and operate audio equipment.
- Ability to set up and break down rehearsal and performance spaces.
- Work is performed primarily in Club classrooms, music rooms, multipurpose spaces, and occasionally outdoors or at community performances.
Safety and Youth Protection Responsibilities
- Maintain active supervision of members at all times.
- Comply with all Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Youth Protection policies, safety standards, and mandated reporting requirements.
- Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, injuries, suspected abuse, or policy violations.
- Foster a physically and emotionally safe environment where all members are treated with dignity, respect, and inclusion.
