We are actively seeking a talented, driven and highly productive applicant to oversee certain Environmental and Regulatory Affairs at a leadership level to join our small, dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
Ability to provide technical expertise and analysis with respect to regulatory and legislative matters impacting the maritime industry and freight supply chain. Evaluate and provide policy and strategy direction to the Association and to Association members. Experience with the California Air Resources Board and local Air Districts is highly preferred.
Assume responsibility for environmental regulatory matters affecting ocean-going vessel and marine terminal equipment operations, including technical aspects regarding air quality, fuels, engines, zero-emissions technology, energy, and related subjects.
Ability to translate complex regulatory and/or legislative language into summaries for members. Ability to facilitate internal member discussions to reach a consensus on policy positions.
Thorough and current knowledge of environmental practices, applicable laws and regulations as they pertain to the operations of member companies. Keep up to date on local and state environmental issues that may affect the membership, as well as the greater industry.
Write formal public comment letters and attend public meetings to represent members. Effective and considerable public speaking and writing required.
Monitor the activities of the West Coast ports through attendance and engagement at public, government meetings on port and/or industry environmental matters.
Work with consultants and lobbyists engaged by the Association for media relations, legislative, and regulatory actions. Supervise and direct the work of outside technical consultants as necessary.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and maintenance of credibility in the accumulation and dissemination of data and information.
Excellent written, verbal and public presentation skills to communicate effectively. A writing or speaking sample may be requested.
Ability to draft and create materials for distribution to Association membership and the public.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and relevant tools to execute the responsibilities listed above.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, environmental science, or similar technical degree related to position qualifications required, but graduate degree or equivalent experience highly desirable.
At least five years of working experience in technical, regulatory affairs or similar energy or environmental field is required. Ten plus years of working experience preferred. Relevant private industry or similar consulting experience in energy, fuels, or transportation welcome. Considerable maritime, freight, logistics, military, and/or transportation industry experience highly desirable.
