Position summary
MMSC Day School is seeking a compassionate and dependable Onsite Student Support Specialist to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
The specialist will work directly with students, teachers, families, and administrators while collaborating with the school’s social worker, who works virtually from California. School administration will provide daily onsite supervision.
Primary responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group student support.
- Help students develop emotional regulation, communication, coping, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Conduct student check-ins and assist students with classroom participation, transitions, and peer relationships.
- Observe students and help teachers implement appropriate classroom and behavioral supports.
- Carry out student support plans developed with school administration and the virtual school social worker.
- Participate in regular virtual consultations and student-review meetings.
- Communicate relevant student progress and concerns to authorized staff and families.
- Participate in parent, staff, IEP, evaluation, and student-support meetings when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of student meetings, interventions, and follow-up.
- Follow all school safety, emergency, confidentiality, and mandated-reporting procedures.
- Assist with schoolwide social-emotional and behavioral initiatives.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, human services, child development, social work, counseling, or a related field.
- Experience supporting elementary or middle-school students.
- Experience with behavioral support, social-emotional learning, classroom intervention, or youth development.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently onsite while collaborating consistently with school administration and a virtual school social worker.
- Respect for and willingness to work within the values and culture of an Orthodox Jewish school community.
Scope of the position
This is a school-based student support position. The specialist will not independently diagnose students, provide psychotherapy, or perform services requiring clinical licensure. Concerns requiring clinical assessment or treatment will be referred to the school social worker, administration, families, or an appropriate outside provider.
Interview process
School administration and the virtual school social worker will participate in the interview and selection process. Specific workdays, hours, responsibilities, compensation, and the start date will be discussed with the selected candidate.
Pay: $50.00 per hour
