We are seeking a warm, developmentally minded Child Therapist who enjoys working with autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, and neurodivergent children and their families.
This is not a behavior-management role.
We are especially interested in a clinician who understands that meaningful progress often begins with relationship, regulation, curiosity, play, and connection.
Our approach may incorporate DIR/Floortime-informed and attachment-based principles, including:
- Following the child's lead and joining the child's interests
- Using play to build shared attention, engagement, and reciprocity
- Supporting regulation and co-regulation before expecting higher-level skills
- Creating playful opportunities for communication and problem-solving
- Expanding interaction without forcing compliance or neurotypical performance
- Supporting flexibility through relationship rather than power struggles
- Recognizing sensory needs as part of the child's experience
- Helping children develop emotional communication and self-advocacy
- Working collaboratively with parents and caregivers
- Building upon strengths, interests, and existing capacities
- Supporting authentic connection rather than simply teaching a child to “look less autistic”
We value clinicians who are comfortable getting on the floor, entering a child's world, noticing subtle communication, and asking:
“What is this child communicating - and how can I help the relationship grow from here?”
We are looking for someone who:
- Loves working with children and parents
- Understands child development and attachment
- Is interested in autism, ADHD and AuDHD
- Values neurodivergent-affirming care
- Can distinguish dysregulation from simple noncompliance
- Is willing to involve and coach parents when clinically appropriate
- Thinks clinically rather than relying on scripted interventions
- Values supervision, continued learning and reflective practice
- Works well within a collaborative clinical team
Experience or training in DIR/Floortime, attachment-based play therapy, child-centered play therapy, developmental approaches, sensory-informed care, parent-child work, or other relationship-based models is especially welcome.
Formal DIRFloortime experience is wonderful, but a clinician who is eager to learn and whose philosophy strongly aligns with this developmental, relationship-centered approach is also encouraged to inquire.
At Embrace, we believe children deserve more than behavior correction.
We want to understand what is happening underneath the behavior, strengthen the child's capacity for connection and regulation, and help families know their child better.
