About Us
Pluma Construction Systems is a growing general contractor based in Albuquerque. We build for federal, state, and local government clients as well as commercial owners across New Mexico. We are a tight team that takes real pride in the work, and we are at the stage where our finance function needs a strong, experienced owner.
About the Role
We are hiring a Controller to run the accounting side of the company. This is a hands on seat. You will do the work, not just review it, and you will be the right hand to ownership on everything financial.
A big part of this job is partnership with the owner. You will sit down with ownership regularly to walk through job margins, work in progress, and cash position, and help us see around corners. If you enjoy teaching and explaining the "why" behind the numbers, you will do well here. Our current Controller is relocating out of state, and you will have an overlap period with them for a real handoff before they go.
What You Will Own
- Full cycle accounting in QuickBooks Enterprise, including month end close
- Job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage of completion revenue tracking
- Progress billings and pay applications (AIA G702/G703), schedule of values, and retainage tracking on both the receivable and payable side
- Accounts payable and receivable, including subcontractor payments and lien waiver tracking
- New Mexico gross receipts tax filings and compliance
- Payroll oversight and certified payroll reporting on prevailing wage and federal jobs
- Weekly cash forecasting and management of our line of credit
- Financial reporting for ownership, our bank, our surety, and our board of advisors
- Supporting our outside CPA on the annual review and tax work
- Building and enforcing internal controls, approval processes, and separation of duties
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in construction accounting
- Real working knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage of completion accounting. This is the core of the job and we will ask about it in detail
- Experience with AIA style progress billing and retainage
- QuickBooks experience required, QuickBooks Enterprise a plus
- Experience with New Mexico GRT a strong plus
- Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage work a plus
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience. CCIFP or CPA a plus but not required
- Someone honest, organized, and direct who is comfortable telling ownership what they need to hear
What We Offer
- $85,000 to $95,000 salary depending on experience
- Health insurance
- 15 days of PTO and sick leave, plus paid holidays
- Professional training and development through Elevate
