Spartanburg Community College seeks a highly skilled and industry-experienced Workforce Development Instructor to deliver welding and industrial automation training for workforce development, continuing education, and customized industry programs. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in welding processes including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials with experience welding thin gauge sheet metal as well as thicker materials. This instructor will provide training in fabrication, manufacturing, and pipe welding applications while preparing students and incumbent workers for careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial trades.
Teach Industrial courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; assist with student advising and registration. Teaching may be on any campus or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends, or a combination. Courses may also be credit, non-credit, or workforce development related.
TEACHING PERFORMANCE – The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.
INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT – The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.
STUDENT ADVISEMENT – The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND COLLEGE ENGAGEMENT – The participation in college and community service activities that promote the institution, along with ongoing professional development efforts designed to maintain and enhance skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in the position.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Certificate in welding, mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent industry-recognized credentials. Three years of hands-on experience in welding processes, including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials, with experience in welding thin-gauge sheet metal and thicker materials.
