Budgeted Salary:
The budgeted base salary range for this position is
$104,000 to $110,000
per annum.

Bing Nursery School is a program in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University and serves as a laboratory for the Department of Psychology. The department established the school in 1949, and the current building in 1966, to serve as a site for research and training in child development. It provides high quality educational programs to over 550 young children (2-5 years) each year, their parents, students in training, research and teaching faculty, and educators worldwide.

The Bing Teacher 2/Resource Specialist will have the following responsibilities: Plan and implement educational experiences for pre-school children with a child development focus in a laboratory school setting to support faculty research and undergraduate instruction in developmental psychology and early education. Assist with supervision and mentoring of new teachers and supervise, guide, and mentor undergraduate students.
Additional responsibilities for the Resource Specialist include:
Manage and provide a functional workspace conducive to teaching and research. Supervise the cleaning and organizing of the teacher workroom, kitchen, Tower House, library, outdoor areas/patios, and seminar/multipurpose rooms.
Train and coordinate duties of any all-school assistants assigned to maintaining the school, including program assistant, full-time staff, and students. Perform all-school duties when necessary.
Work with program assistant on inventory and ordering of school supplies.
Research, review and evaluate educational materials, online and on-site.
Recommend and manage resources for teachers and staff, in keeping with budget. Work directly with teachers to determine the needs of their classrooms.
With approval of Associate Director and/or Associate Director of Finance and Operations, oversee, maintain, and order all school and food supplies either in-person or online, including resources for teachers and classrooms. Settle any potential issues with retailers and customer service representatives.
Assist the Administrative Director in planning various school events.
Provide tours for visitors.
This position is a 100% FTE continuing position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Constantly twist/bend/stoop/squat.
Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Occasionally sit, kneel/crawl, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix.
Requires good visual and auditory acuity.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work outdoors on a regular basis, occasionally in inclement weather. Includes caring for animals and plants.
Work evenings and weekends.
May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA, bleach, vomit, or blood.
Core Duties :
Plan and implement creative and challenging curriculum projects and activities in the areas of language and literacy, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth; plan and structure environments to facilitate activities.
Provide instruction to children; identify emerging curriculum and work with the children on short-term and long-term projects.
Use observation skills to record children’s behavior and maintain anecdotal records.
Work directly with parents providing verbal updates and interpreting their children’s behavior; hold formal conferences with families including initial developmental history intake and home visits.
Assist the head teacher in supervising and mentoring new teachers and contribute to their performance evaluations.
Work directly with researchers to facilitate faculty and undergraduate student research projects; help children to participate in relevant studies; help researchers develop rapport with the children.
Supervise, guide and mentor undergraduate students observing or participating in the classroom; provide students with verbal and written feedback on their progress; demonstrate to undergraduate students the links between theory and actual classroom activity in support of the student’s academic development.
Design, produce and display program content and the children’s work; write articles for school newsletters; present at parent seminars and early childhood conferences; provide tours for visitors.
Minimum Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or equivalent education and courses in education and child development.
Minimum Experience :
Two years of experience teaching in the field of Early Childhood Education. Experience teaching in a laboratory school desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of young children.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues, parents, students, and faculty.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Current Child Development Permit desired.
