Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems accurately.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to support diagnostic assessments.
- Prepare examination rooms with necessary supplies and ensure cleanliness and readiness for OB/GYN procedures.
- Support physicians during examinations and minor procedures, including assisting with speculum exams or ultrasound preparations.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures for blood draws and collect specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining proper sample handling protocols.
- Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and documenting patient interactions in EMR/EHR systems.
- Support patient education by providing instructions on medication administration, prenatal care, or post-procedure care, ensuring clear communication.
Requirements
- Preferably 2 years experience in Medical Assisting.
- Proven experience working in obstetrics/gynecology or related outpatient clinics with knowledge of women’s health issues.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and ICD coding relevant to OB/GYN care.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or X-ray technician training are advantageous.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and EMR management tools to ensure accurate documentation.
- Familiarity with hospital medicine protocols, outpatient procedures, and inpatient experience enhances your ability to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to sensitive health topics; ability to communicate effectively across diverse populations.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers or busy outpatient clinics specializing in obstetrics or internal medicine.
