ABOUT POUR DECISIONS BK
Pour Decisions BK is the bar and café concept anchoring The BedStuy Hotel — a boutique hybrid hotel
and hostel rooted in the Brooklyn community. We run a tight, intentional operation where every role
carries real weight. The kitchen and the floor only work because the people holding it together behind
the scenes show up and do the work right. This is one of those roles.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Dishwasher / Porter keeps the engine running. Without clean plates, clean floors, and an organized
BOH, nothing else happens. This role owns the cleanliness and operational readiness of the kitchen and
shared back-of-house spaces — from the dish station to storage areas to the service corridors
connecting the kitchen to the floor.
We’re looking for someone reliable, physically capable, and genuinely invested in doing their job well.
This is not a throwaway position — it’s a foundational one. The team notices when it’s done right, and
the whole operation slows down when it’s not. If you take pride in your work and want to be part of a
team that respects every person on it, this is a good place to be.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Dish Station
Operate commercial dishwasher equipment safely and efficiently throughout service
Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store all smallwares, cookware, sheet pans, hotel pans, and
glassware
Keep the dish station organized and flowing so the kitchen and bar are never waiting on clean
equipment
Monitor dish station chemical levels, water temperature, and sanitizer concentration; flag issues
to the kitchen lead immediately
Sort and stack clean wares correctly — fragile items separated, glassware upright, cookware
stacked by size
Return clean items to their designated storage locations promptly after each cycle
Kitchen & BOH Cleanliness
Sweep and mop kitchen floors throughout service and at close — including under equipment,
around floor drains, and in walk-in areas
Wipe down and sanitize all BOH surfaces, including prep tables, shelving, equipment exteriors, and walls near the dish station
Clean and degrease cooking equipment as assigned — fryers, flat tops, hood filters, and oven
interiors on scheduled rotation
Empty and reline all BOH trash and recycling receptacles throughout the shift; break down
cardboard
Maintain clean and organized dry storage, walk-in cooler, and freezer areas — sweep, wipe spills, and flag anything that needs attention
Clean floor mats, drains, and mop buckets at the end of shift; hang mops properly
Porter / Facilities Support
Maintain cleanliness of all shared back-of-house spaces including hallways, stairwells, loading areas, and service corridors
Assist with breaking down and disposing of deliveries — flatten boxes, remove packaging,
dispose of waste per NYC sanitation guidelines
Restock BOH supplies as directed — paper goods, cleaning chemicals, trash liners, and storage items
Support FOH cleaning needs as directed during slow periods — wiping down furniture, cleaning restrooms, removing floor debris
Assist with deep cleans, special event breakdowns, and scheduled facility maintenance tasks as assigned
Report any equipment malfunctions, facility issues, or safety hazards to the kitchen lead or F&B Director immediately
Standards & Compliance
Follow all NYC DOHMH sanitation and food safety protocols at all times
Handle and store cleaning chemicals safely per OSHA and manufacturer guidelines; use proper
PPE
Maintain personal hygiene standards appropriate for a food service environment
Adhere to all policies set forth in the Pour Decisions BK Employee Handbook
Participate in required training including sanitation, chemical handling, and safety procedures
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required
Reliability above everything — you show up on time, every shift, ready to work
Ability to work independently, maintain pace, and manage your station without supervision
Physical stamina for continuous standing, lifting, and moving in a hot, wet environment
Positive attitude and willingness to do what the kitchen needs without being asked twice
Preferred
Prior dishwasher, porter, or BOH experience in a restaurant, hotel, or food service setting
Familiarity with commercial dishwashing equipment and chemical safety protocols
Basic understanding of kitchen operations and NYC sanitation standards
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and move continuously for up to 8 hours
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs — bus tubs, stock deliveries, trash, and equipment
Work in hot, wet, and high-noise BOH environments
Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion throughout the shift
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, steam, and commercial kitchen equipment
SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role requires availability across morning, midday, evening, and weekend shifts based on business needs. Schedules are set weekly. During our opening period, flexibility and consistent availability are especially important. This role frequently works through and past service close — the kitchen does not close until the kitchen is clean.

This is a non-tipped, hourly position paid at NYC minimum wage ($17/hr) or above based on experience.
This role is not included in the FOH tip pool. Compensation reflects the full scope of duties and the physical demands of the position. Strong performers are recognized in scheduling priority and advancement opportunities
