Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays | 9:00–10:00 AM (2–3 classes/week)
Pay: $40/hour + paid admin and professional development time
About the Program
The Feeling Fit Club is a free, evidence-based fitness program for older adults focused on improving strength, balance, flexibility, and aerobic endurance. Exercises are adaptable for all ability levels and may be performed seated or standing. The program also supports social connection and reducing isolation.
The program is administered by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Aging & Independence Services (AIS), with oversight from an Exercise Physiologist who provides training, support, and annual evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Lead safe, engaging group fitness classes for older adults
- Provide exercise modifications for all ability levels
- Follow the standard class structure (warm-up, balance/core, strength, cooldown, flexibility)
- Maintain participant safety and follow emergency procedures when needed
- Submit attendance and required documentation
- Communicate with AIS/program staff as needed
- Attend required trainings and in-services
Qualifications
Required:
- 1+ year of group fitness instruction OR experience working with older adults
- CPR certification
- General/professional liability insurance
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred:
- ACE or ACSM certification
- Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field
Training & Compensation
Training is provided by AIS and includes class observation and teaching components prior to approval.
- $40/hour instruction rate
- Paid administrative time (3 hours/month per class)
- Paid professional development (up to 20 hours/year, approved)
Pay: $40.00 per hour
