American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Oncology PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position requiring high-acuity PCU experience and telemetry skills, with oncology experience preferred but not required.

Work in a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care within a large academic cancer hospital

Medical Oncology unit with progressive care and a small amount of med-surg; patient diagnoses include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology

PCU patient ratio is 1:3; Med-Surg Telemetry ratio is 1:4-5

Pediatric patients are extremely rare on this unit and would typically be managed by permanent staff; pediatric experience is not required

Shift is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
-
Day/Night rotating contract is possible; if accepted, shift assignments (days, nights, or a combination) are determined by department needs and reviewed every 4-week scheduling period

Self-scheduling requests are submitted prior to finalization of the schedule

Floating is required within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, and continuous bladder irrigation systems

Epic EMR (implied by academic cancer center setting — confirm with recruiter if critical)

Active OH RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand

Current certifications required: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

High-acuity PCU experience required

2+ years of oncology experience preferred but not required

Previous travel nursing experience preferred

Required clinical skills include: telemetry/dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/PICC/peripheral line management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (non-titrating and titrating), PCA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management

Preferred skills include: dysrhythmia management, IV/insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain management, and non-invasive airway management

2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration

Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Orientation consists of two weeks: the first week is Monday–Friday dayshift classroom/general orientation, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

No break between assignments is required when changing representation at this facility (except for Sterile Processing Techs, who still require a 30-day break)
