Certified Peer Support Specialist / Supervisor — Remote Contract
IGNTD is building a nationwide team of certified peer-support professionals for an upcoming Federal Bureau of Prisons Virtual Community Reentry Peer Support Services project.
This is a remote, independent-contractor opportunity contingent upon IGNTD receiving the federal contract award. Multiple Peer Support Specialist positions may be available, along with at least one Peer Support Supervisor position.
About the role
Selected contractors will provide virtual peer-support, recovery, and community-reentry services to adults in Federal Bureau of Prisons community placements throughout the United States and U.S. territories.
Services may be delivered through telephone, video, chat, and secure digital communication tools. The overall program must provide coverage from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in each participant’s local time, 365 days per year. Individual contractors will work coordinated shifts and are not expected to cover the entire service window alone.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual virtual peer-support and scheduled participant check-ins
- Support participants with recovery, reentry, goal setting, and community adjustment
- Help participants identify barriers and connect with appropriate community resources
- Maintain professional boundaries and participant confidentiality
- Document services accurately and submit required reports on time
- Coordinate with the Peer Support Supervisor and IGNTD program team
- Follow established escalation, safety, and quality-assurance procedures
- Participate in training, supervision, and program meetings
- Deliver culturally responsive and trauma-informed peer support
Minimum qualifications
- Active state or nationally recognized peer-support certification
- Peer-support training and direct-practice experience
- Ability to provide documentation confirming current credentials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a structured virtual environment
- Reliable computer, internet connection, telephone access, and private workspace
- Ability to complete timely electronic documentation
- Ability to satisfy Federal Bureau of Prisons background and suitability requirements
- Must not currently be under parole, probation, or other correctional supervision
Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting justice-involved, forensic, or community-reentry populations
- Experience providing virtual or telephone-based peer support
- Recovery coaching, forensic peer support, WRAP, family peer support, or related credentials
- Additional language capabilities
- Availability during evenings, weekends, or multiple U.S. time zones
- Experience collaborating with correctional, behavioral-health, or community-based organizations
Peer Support Supervisor candidates
Candidates interested in the supervisory role should also have:
- Previous peer-support supervision or program leadership experience
- Experience coaching and supporting peer specialists
- Experience reviewing documentation and maintaining service quality
- Ability to coordinate staffing and nationwide coverage
- Experience with escalation procedures, compliance, and quality assurance
