What to Expect
Tesla Infrastructure Engineering is looking for a Process Design Engineer to support process design of pure water, ultrapure water, industrial wastewater treatment, and water reuse systems to support automotive factories, data centers, and battery manufacturing facilities, and industrial plants. The Process Design team strives to create the factory of the future by bringing conceptual designs to life, producing cutting-edge detailed designs of chemical and utility systems that are fully integrated with Tesla’s advanced manufacturing processes.
What You'll Do-
Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of process engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for various pure water, ultrapure water, wastewater treatment, and water reuse processes and supporting chemical systems such as bulk solids equipment, chemical dosing systems, and separations equipment

Contribute to front-end and detailed process designs for complex and program-level projects, including scope development, Basis of Design documentation, PFDs, P&IDs, pressure drop analysis and hydraulics modeling, pressure relief valve calculations, equipment datasheets, process simulation (i.e. Aspen Plus), and supporting Sequence of Operations / Controls Narrative documents

Provide technical expertise to the engineering/design team and other groups within Tesla

Participate in commercial contracting activities, including development of scopes of work, evaluation of bid packages, performing bid analysis, competitive bid leveling, and working with Procurement to prepare commercial subcontracts

Participate in field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution

Review process design work performed by others on the Process Team

Provide process engineering support to facilities operations and manufacturing teams to help resolve process bottlenecks and other long-standing issues and mentor less experienced engineers on the team
What You'll Bring-
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or the equivalent in experience

5+ years of experience in process design, process improvement or operations of water systems. Emphasis on design of new installations is required. A combination of experience with an owner/operator and an EPC firm

Experience with the following processes and equipment: industrial wastewater treatment, high purity water, membrane filtration, ion exchange, slurry systems, bulk chemical systems, solid/liquid separations equipment, crystallization systems, and piping networks

Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred but not required

Knowledge related to North American / United States codes, standards, and regulations (API, ASME, ASME/BPVC, ASTM, ISO, NFPA, etc.)

Ability to lead or participate in process hazard evaluations of the equipment listed above

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo
