Position Overview
The Machine Repair Technician is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of commercial floor care equipment for Buckeye customers in the San Antonio area. This is a customer-facing role that requires both strong technical skills and professional communication. You will operate out of our San Antonio facility and travel to customer sites throughout the region.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial floor care equipment including auto scrubbers, burnishers, wide-area vacuums, sweepers, and carpet extractors
- Perform routine preventive maintenance including battery system checks, electrical inspections, belt and brush replacement, and drive system service
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues using diagnostic tools, electrical schematics, and volt-ohm meters
- Perform on-site equipment service calls at customer locations throughout the San Antonio region
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment issues, completed work, and maintenance recommendations
- Look up and order replacement parts through manufacturer websites and vendor portals
- Reassemble and test equipment following repairs to confirm proper operation
- Maintain accurate service records including inspection findings, work performed, and parts used
- Train customer employees on the proper use, operation, and routine care of floor care equipment to extend equipment life and reduce service calls
- Represent Buckeye professionally at all customer sites – this role is often the face of our company to the customer
Required Qualifications
- Background in small engine repair, auto mechanics, industrial equipment maintenance, or a related trade
- Strong electrical aptitude – ability to read electrical schematics and use a volt-ohm meter; working knowledge of DC electrical systems
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose root causes, not just symptoms
- Good manual dexterity; ability to work with precision tools in tight spaces
- Ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 50 lbs
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean MVR history
- Good customer service skills – professional, personable, and responsive to customer needs in the field
- Professional, customer-focused communication skills – written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience servicing commercial floor care equipment brands such as Tennant, Windsor, Clarke, Advance, or Nobles
- Familiarity with battery-powered and electric commercial equipment systems
- Prior experience in a field service or customer-facing technical role
- Basic computer skills for service record entry and parts lookup
