The Meter Reader is responsible for accurately reading and recording electric and water meter readings using a handheld computerized meter reading system on a daily basis. This position also involves inspecting meters and connections for defects, damage, or unauthorized connections and reporting any irregularities. Effective communication and professional interaction with customers is an essential part of this role.
This position requires a high level of self-motivation and independence, as work is performed individually in the field with minimal direct supervision. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage assigned routes efficiently while maintaining accuracy and productivity.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Majority of the workday involves walking and standing
- Ability to lift, reach, carry, climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl as needed
- Audio, visual, and verbal abilities are essential to perform job duties safely and accurately
Attendance & Work Conditions:
- Consistent attendance and punctuality are required to complete assigned reading routes on schedule
- Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme cold in winter, very hot and humid summer conditions, and frequent exposure to wet environments
