Monroe University, with New York campuses in the Bronx and New Rochelle, a national leader in educating urban and international students is seeking an adjunct faculty member for the School of Education for Winter 2024 to teach educational courses to teaching assistants and paraprofessionals that are seeking to become certified, classroom teachers in either early childhood or childhood education.
Courses will include those that support candidate development in early childhood and childhood content and pedagogy across subject areas. Clinical practice will include application of the content to fieldwork and student teaching settings. The courses will be offered on the New Rochelle campus on Saturday mornings and afternoons.
Monroe’s School of Education’s mission is to develop high-performing, skilled, and passionate educator-practitioners who advocate for their students, particularly those at risk. Graduates of the early childhood and childhood programs are: (1) well-versed in all aspects of the development of typical and delayed children; (2) knowledgeable about the challenges and heightened risk factors facing urban families and schools; (3) well-equipped to provide effective instruction and intervention for all learners, including those growing up in poverty and those with diverse learning needs; and (4) well-prepared to assist students’ families to advocate for their children and navigate education system complexities.
The primary role of faculty at Monroe University is to implement and advance the teaching/learning process within the context of the University mission and core values and collaborate with faculty in the School of Education and across the college to support success for pre-service teachers. Faculty must be sensitive and responsive to the needs of students and participate in various operations of the institution as required and/or needed.
Candidates should have earned a minimum MA in Education; hold a valid New York State certification in early childhood/childhood education, have a minimum of 5 years teaching at the elementary level and experience teaching/coaching teachers in the field or students at the University level. Research areas of interest should focus on best practices in urban education and clinical practice with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Ph D/ Ed D recommended.
