Job description
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Agile Mind helps keep the lights on and keeps us moving forward. This role combines infrastructure operations, production deployments, and employee-facing IT support, with a clear path toward ownership of our Linux platform and core services. You'll spend your time ensuring systems remain reliable, secure, and well documented while supporting the people who depend on them every day. You'll work directly with the engineers who built and operate the platform, gaining deep knowledge of the system while helping define its next phase of growth. The infrastructure itself is the product of years of thoughtful engineering. While there is still work to do, the foundation is sound and the direction is clear: greater automation, deeper observability, and continual operational improvement.
Key responsibilities
Internal User Support
- Desktop support and help desk for Agile Mind staff across multiple OS and software suites
- Employee onboarding and offboarding execution
Core Operations
- Execute weekly production content deploys via provided Ansible playbooks
- Run hypervisor and VM lifecycle operations (provisioning, decommissioning, basic maintenance)
- Handle DNS, firewall, certificate, and credential requests on existing platforms
- OS patching execution on regular cadence
- Hardware maintenance coordination with colocation facility (smart hands, occasional travel)
- Documentation of all primary functions
- DRP and backup operations
- Monitor and assess infrastructure, network, security, and user incidents
- Serve as primary responder for infrastructure incidents, escalating as needed
- Monitor and document general IT budget
Infrastructure Ownership (after demonstrating mastery of Core Operations)
- Take primary ownership of Linux infrastructure
- Inherit hypervisor architecture, networking, and core services ownership
- Identify, propose, and execute infrastructure improvements
Required skills
- Comfortable with help desk and end-user application support with Windows and MacOS
- 5+ years Linux (Debian) systems administration
- Experience administering Google Workspace
- Ansible (run playbooks confidently; edit in an emergency)
- Version control fluency (SVN/Git)
- Documentation discipline
- Strong incident response and escalation judgment
- Availability to travel to colocation facility (CA) 2-3 times per year
- Scripting (Bash, Python)
- BIND/DNS, VPN, networking, firewall experience
Preferred skills
- Hypervisor experience (Xen)
- Backup technology experience (Borg)
