Job Summary:
Berkshire Community Action Council, Inc, a dedicated community action agency, is seeking an experienced Energy Auditor to join our team and help support our goal to reduce energy costs, improve energy efficiency, and create a more sustainable future for low-income households. The Energy Auditor will perform comprehensive energy assessments, identify efficiency opportunities, and provide recommendations for energy-saving measures in homes and buildings. This position requires a strong understanding of building and energy systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for supporting underserved communities.
Compensation is dependent on experience and certifications held.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct residential energy audits to assess energy use and identify opportunities for savings.
- Perform diagnostic tests and inspections.
- Educate clients about energy-saving measures and the benefits of implementing energy efficiency improvements.
- Prepare detailed energy audit reports, outlining findings, recommendations, and estimated savings.
- Work with the program team to ensure energy-saving measures are implemented effectively.
- Provide clients with information on available energy assistance programs and financial incentives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, technologies, and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality control procedures.
- Collaborate with contractors and service providers to ensure proper installation of energy-saving measures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of completed audits and associated activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy auditing, energy efficiency, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of residential energy systems, including HVAC, lighting, insulation, and building envelope.
- Experience with energy audit tools and diagnostic equipment
- Knowledge of energy efficiency programs and state/federal regulations related to energy audits and improvements.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively to clients with varying levels of understanding.
- Experience working with low-income populations or within a community-based organization is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with weatherization programs or other energy assistance programs.
- Certification as a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector is preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent climbing, standing, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching above and below shoulder height, and grasping with one or both hands. Working in dusty, cramped environments. Requires standing, climbing ladders and stairs, exposure to fumes, odors, hot and cold temperatures. Working inside and outside.
- Frequent phone communications, public contact, and working with others. Must be able to follow detailed instructions and adapt to frequent changes.
- Frequent evaluating, analyzing, and presenting information. Perform complex or varied tasks.
- Daily/frequent driving to homes throughout Berkshire County. Occasional driving to trainings and meetings outside of Berkshire County.
- Daily/frequent walking. May include walking on wet, uneven, slippery surfaces.
- Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
