POSITION OVERVIEW
A growing automotive-component manufacturer in Hudson, Ohio is hiring multiple Quality Inspection and Sorting Operators. Available assignments include:
- Sorting Operator
- Copper Cell Sort Operator
- Inspection Operator
- Mectron Inspection Machine Operator
These positions inspect, sort, count, and package automotive fasteners and precision metal components. Depending on the assignment, employees may perform visual and dimensional inspections, operate automated Mectron inspection equipment, identify defective parts, maintain lot traceability, and prepare approved products for shipment or additional production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect automotive fasteners and metal components for cracks, damaged threads, burrs, discoloration, coating defects, contamination, deformation, mixed parts, and other nonconformities
- Separate accepted, rejected, rework, and suspect materials into properly identified containers
- Maintain lot integrity and prevent different part numbers, materials, or production lots from becoming mixed
- Count, weigh, package, and label completed products
- Record quantities inspected, accepted, rejected, scrapped, or submitted for additional review
- Complete production sheets, inspection records, labels, and quality documentation accurately
- Compare components against approved samples, photographs, quality alerts, drawings, and written specifications
- Use calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, plug gauges, ring gauges, or other inspection tools when required
- Load and unload components from bins, totes, trays, tables, hoppers, feeders, conveyors, or inspection equipment
- Operate automated inspection, sorting, counting, or packaging equipment after completing training
- Select approved Mectron inspection programs or machine settings when assigned to automated inspection equipment
- Monitor machine operation, part flow, inspection results, and accept/reject readings
- Notify supervisors or quality personnel when recurring defects or unusual conditions are identified
- Assist with containment, reinspection, rework, and customer-return sorting assignments
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, quality procedures, and work instructions
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous manufacturing, inspection, sorting, packaging, machine-operation, or production experience is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify small defects or differences between parts
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, approved samples, and inspection standards
- Basic math, counting, weighing, and documentation skills
- Basic computer or touchscreen-control skills
- Ability to perform repetitive inspection and sorting tasks while maintaining accuracy
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
- Willingness to work overtime when required
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Automotive fastener, nut, bolt, stamping, machining, or precision-component manufacturing
- Visual inspection, quality sorting, containment, rework, or packaging
- Mectron, automated vision, laser, or sorting equipment
- Calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, plug gauges, ring gauges, or counting scales
- Lot traceability, control plans, work orders, and nonconforming-material procedures
- Pallet-jack, forklift, or material-handling equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands throughout a 12-hour shift
- Ability to perform repetitive hand movements while maintaining accuracy
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds when required
