LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: TENNESSEE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (TEMA), DAVIDSON COUNTY
This position may be eligible to work remotely up to 40% of the time after six months in the role.
This position may require overtime based on business needs and may be eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to three years of professional human resources work.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in human resources administration or other related acceptable fields may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of one year.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional human resources experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.
Overview
Payroll Administration (Human Resources Generalist 2) is responsible for administering and processing the Tennessee Emergency Management Authority payroll. This position ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and provides exceptional customer service to employees regarding payroll and HR matters.
As part of the Tennessee Emergency Management Authority's mission, all positions may be called upon to support emergency operations. Employees may be required to work alternate schedules and/or report to alternate work locations to include disaster scenes to support response and recovery operations.

Responsibilities

Process biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payroll accurately and on schedule.

Review and audit employee time records, leave balances, overtime, and payroll transactions for accuracy.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and payroll reporting requirements.

Maintain payroll records and employee earnings data while ensuring confidentiality and data security.

Process new hires, terminations, promotions, salary changes, garnishments, deductions, direct deposits, and tax withholding updates.

Coordinate payroll activities with Human Resources, Finance as applicable.

Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies, resolving issues promptly.

Prepare payroll-related reports for management, auditors, and regulatory agencies.

Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation, tax reporting, and payroll reconciliations.

Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, taxes, deductions, leave balances, and payroll policies.
