Part Time Zookeeper Position:
Are you looking for a unique, fast-paced, incredibly rewarding position working with and caring for animals from all over the world? Then look no further. The Friends of Pine Grove Zoo is looking to expand their amazingly dedicated team of Zookeepers. This part time position is extremely physical and requires working outside in inclement weather. Applicants must have a great work ethic, flexible, be 18 years of age or older, and able to work every other weekend, days, some evenings and some holidays. Hours vary by season. Zookeeper Responsibilities:
- Feeds, cleans, and maintains all animals and habitats per Zoo policies and procedures
- Monitors and observes animals for proper eating and general health conditions
- Maintains or exceeds all USDA and the Minnesota Board of Animal Health standards
- Will participate in enrichment program each day
- Assists in removal of snow, ice, and any other debris from walkways and zoo grounds
- Ground maintenance, includes; mowing, weeding, trimming and pruning as directed
- Enforces Zoo practices, policies, and procedures in a professional, patient manner
- Attends meetings, seminars, and classes as directed
- Must have or have the ability to, complete a gun safety certification
- Performs manual tasks in a wide range of working conditions, outside during inclement weather
- Locks ALL gates and enclosures as required
- Maintains and completes all daily logs
- Other as requested.
Requirements:
- Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance in order to perform assigned tasks.
- Represent the zoo’s position in conservation and other issues in a well-informed and positive manner.
- Must communicate with sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively and work constructively with all staff, volunteers and other individuals
- Be able to work without close supervision at times
- Must have a positive attitude, be highly flexible, adaptable, have a strong work ethic, extremely tactful and professional at all times.
- Must be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure and meet critical deadlines
- Effective problem-solving abilities and sound, logical decision-making skills required
- Strong observation, analytical, and organizational skills and abilities. Proofreading and an eye for detail and accuracy is very critical
- Must be flexible, cooperative, and able to adapt easily to shifting priorities.
- Must have strong verbal communication and listening skills.
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
