POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking licensed Journeyman Electricians for contract positions on commercial and residential construction projects in Memphis, TN. Initial engagements are project-based, running 6 weeks or longer, with top performers eligible for conversion to direct hire. Candidates must hold the applicable journeyman-level electrical credential for the jurisdiction(s) in which they will work — see the licensing table below for jurisdiction-specific requirements. Journeymen will perform all phases of commercial and residential electrical installation, work independently within the scope authorized by their license, and may supervise apprentice-level crew members under direction of a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all phases of electrical rough-in and trim on commercial and residential projects independently and within licensed scope
- Install, bend, and support EMT, rigid (GRC), IMC, and PVC conduit systems; execute offsets, saddles, 3-point and 4-point bends using hand and hydraulic benders
- Pull, terminate, and label wire and cable through conduit systems; ensure proper fill ratios and NEC-compliant installation
- Install and terminate panels, subpanels, breakers, and service equipment per one-line diagrams and panel schedules
- Install lighting fixtures, switches, receptacles, GFCI/AFCI devices, and specialty equipment per drawings and specifications
- Read and interpret electrical construction drawings including one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel schedules, and detail sheets without supervision
- Perform layout and establish conduit runs, device locations, and panel placement from electrical drawings
- Supervise and direct apprentice electricians assigned to your crew; ensure work quality, code compliance, and safe practices
- Perform and verify self-inspection of completed work prior to rough-in and trim inspections; coordinate AHJ inspection readiness
- Identify and communicate RFIs, code conflicts, and drawing discrepancies to foreman or project management
- Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant work area; lead by example on site safety and housekeeping
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and site safety meetings; enforce OSHA 29 CFR 1926 electrical standards and site-specific safety plans
- Support material takeoffs, staging, and waste reduction as directed by foreman or superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Valid journeyman-level electrical license or credential for the applicable Tennessee jurisdiction(s)
- Shelby County (Memphis area): Tennessee state journeyman license is recognized statewide; verify any municipality-specific requirements with the local AHJ prior to project start
- Minimum 4–5 years of verifiable commercial or residential electrical field experience
- Expert proficiency reading electrical construction drawings: one-lines, panel schedules, riser diagrams, lighting and power plans
- Full command of NEC code requirements as adopted and enforced in Tennessee jurisdictions
- Mastery of conduit systems — EMT, rigid, IMC, PVC — including layout, bending, and support installation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and supervise apprentice-level crew members
- Valid driver's license; reliable transportation to job site
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and sustain physical demands across full shifts in varying conditions
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
Preferred:
- Tennessee state journeyman license in good standing; familiarity with Shelby County AHJ inspection procedures a plus
- OSHA 30 – Construction certification
- Aerial lift and/or forklift certification
- Experience on commercial project types: multifamily, retail, data center, or light industrial
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, or other plan review and field management platforms
- Prior lead electrician or foreman experience on commercial construction projects
