Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Directional Drill Operator with a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to lead drill crews on underground utility installation projects. The successful candidate must have 3–4 years of experience as a drill team lead and demonstrated proficiency operating an AT60 or equivalent-sized directional drill rig. This role is critical to the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of horizontal directional drilling operations for fiber, water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines in the New York metro area.

Pay Range: $48 - $62 per hour
Duties
- Operate directional drilling equipment with precision to meet project specifications and timelines
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience as a Directional Drill Team Lead
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A preferred, with tanker and air-brake endorsements (current medical card required)
- Lead and supervise drill team members, providing guidance and training to ensure optimal performance
- Safely and productively operate an AT60 (or equivalent 60,000+ lb. thrust/pullback class) directional drill rig, including setup, steering, reaming, and pullback operations
- Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to plan daily drilling activities and logistics
- Maintain detailed records of drilling operations, equipment maintenance, and safety checks
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations during operations
- Assist in the setup of construction sites by operating auxiliary equipment such as tanker trucks for fluid management or paving machinery as neededQualifications
- Proven experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment in construction or utility projects
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and Caterpillar machinery
- Valid commercial driver’s license with clean driving record for operating various construction vehicles such as dump trucks and water trucks
- Demonstrated experience working on construction sites with familiarity in excavation practices and underground utility installation
- Ability to operate additional heavy machinery like graders or tanker trucks when required
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and best practices for heavy equipment operation
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coordinate a drill team effectively
Requirements:
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
· Frequent lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and handling of heavy drill rods, reamers, and tools.
· Exposure to outdoor elements, noise, dust, and drilling fluids.
· Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends to meet project deadlines.
Experience reading bore plans and using locating systems (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite).
· Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly.
· Commitment to safety with a clean safety record and current OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred).
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
