Job Summary
As a Utilities Clerk, you are the vital link between our customers and the essential services that power our community. You’ll maintain a positive, high-energy environment while managing account data, processing payments, and resolving service inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Teamwork & Operations
- Collaborative Spirit: Foster a healthy, positive work environment and motivate teammates to achieve daily goals.
- Daily Management: Oversee the opening and closing of the Utility Department; manage department workflow and filter calls to appropriate staff.
- Communication: Coordinate daily with the Office Manager and colleagues regarding account status, work orders, and general feedback.
- Emergency Response: Act as a primary contact for department supervisors during utility emergencies.
- Versatility: Support other departments and perform additional duties as assigned by the Office Manager or Supervisor.
Customer Excellence
- Problem Solving: Act as the first point of contact for billing inquiries (Water, Sewer, Gas and Garbage), resolving issues with a focus on maintaining positive customer relationships.
- Service Education: Guide customers through services such as auto-drafts, payment arrangements, and new construction policies.
- Documentation: Process culvert permits, gas surveys, and email-related customer documents accurately.
Payment & Financial Processing
- Transaction Management: Process payments via phone, in-person, drop box, or online; maintain and balance a daily cash drawer.
- Account Adjustments: Prepare adjustments for approval and manage collections for NSF (Non-Sufficient Funds), overdue active accounts, and bad debt.
Account Management & Data Integrity
- Records Maintenance: Create, update, and close customer accounts, ensuring all contact and banking information is current.
- Service Coordination: Generate and close service work orders; update accounts for final inspections in new construction.
- Compliance & Reporting: Produce monthly reports for non-payment disconnections and coordinate with meter readers to execute service locks.Organization: Maintain a meticulous filing system for all customer account documents and completed permits.
Pay: $14.50 - $15.00 per hour
