Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview
The Maintenance Specialist performs a variety of construction, repair, and maintenance duties that support the City’s infrastructure and public spaces. This position plays a vital role in keeping Dixon’s streets and city properties operating safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Street & Infrastructure Maintenance:
- Repair streets including pothole patching, asphalt repairs, and crack sealing
- Perform traffic control and flagging during roadway work
- Assist with sidewalk, curb, ADA ramp, and utility patching concrete work
- Maintain storm sewer systems including cleaning and repairing catch basins, manholes and other structures.
- Aid in inspection and repairs of the storm sewer system.
Right-of-Way & Grounds Maintenance
- Sod replacement, seeding, landscaping, and tree trimming/removal
- Mowing and maintaining City-owned properties
- Assist with traffic signal painting, repairs and pavement markings
- Fabricates , installs, and repair street and traffic control signs
- Work with bituminous materials such as sand, gravel, black dirt, and salt
Equipment Operation
Operate equipment such as rucks, wheel loaders, backhoes, excavators, steel wheel rollers, skid loader & attachments, street sweepers, jet vacuum machines for storm & sanitary sewer, and other miscellaneous equipment
Seasonal Operations
- Snow plowing, salting, blowing, and hauling during winter operations
Additional Duties
- Assist with Oakwood Cemetery operations including grave preparation and site restoration
- Provide support for City projects, infrastructure work, and community events
- Assist with maintenance and minor remodeling of City buildings
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class B CDL with Air Brakes, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Preferred Skills
- Experience with construction tools, equipment, and techniques
- Snow removal and equipment operation experience
- Basic mechanical knowledge and abilit
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to meet specific deadlines
- Strong teamwork and professionalism skills
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with City employees and the public

- Regular work hours could include hours outside of first shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM) including nights and weekends. On-call time is required and after-hours work will also be required, including work to be performed at night, on weekends, and during holidays.
- Employees may be assigned or reassigned to any shift in accordance with the union contract.
- 90% of the work environment involves fieldwork in all weather and conditions. Exposure to loud noises.
- 10% of the work environment is a typical shop environment that requires the ability to use and operate a personal computer and peripherals, telephone, and general shop tools and equipment.
- There is possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
