Position Summary
The Veterinary Technician/Assistant plays an essential role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the medical team. This position works closely with veterinarians, the Practice Manager, client service representatives, and fellow medical support staff to provide compassionate, efficient, and high-quality veterinary care.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, compassionate, and thrives in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining professionalism and excellent client service.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Patient Care
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Safely restrain patients while minimizing stress and promoting patient comfort.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed.
- Perform laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately.
- Assist with patient recovery and hospitalization care.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized hospital environment.
Anesthesia and Dentistry
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures.
- Administer pre-medications, induce anesthesia, and intubate patients (where permitted by experience and credentialing).
- Monitor anesthesia, record patient vitals, and immediately report abnormalities to the attending veterinarian.
- Set up and monitor fluid therapy.
- Assist with dental procedures and dental radiography when applicable.
Client Communication
- Educate clients regarding medications, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and preventive care.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients throughout their visit.
- Support a positive client experience by providing accurate information and excellent customer service.
Medical Records
- Accurately document patient history, treatments, medications, laboratory results, and discharge instructions using SOAP format.
- Complete all required hospital forms and medical records promptly and thoroughly.
- Learn and effectively utilize hospital software, including EzyVet and VetRadar.
Inventory and Hospital Maintenance
- Monitor inventory levels for pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, office supplies, and cleaning products.
- Report low inventory promptly.
- Restock inventory and unpack shipments.
- Monitor medication expiration dates and assist with inventory management.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred
- Registered, Licensed, or Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT).
- Veterinary Technician degree from an accredited program.
- Experience with EzyVet and VetRadar.
Physical Requirements

This position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, handling animals, and performing repetitive motions. Team members should be able to lift up to 50 pounds safely and work comfortably around animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
Schedule
- Full-time
- Flexible weekday schedule
- Occasional Saturday mornings (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) as needed
- Closed on major holidays
Compensation
$18.00–$24.00 per hour, based on experience, credentials, and qualifications.
