Position Title: Culinary Coordinator
Reports to: Culinary Director
The Culinary Coordinator assists with the day-to-day culinary operations at FeedNC, helping to ensure consistent meal service, kitchen organization, food quality, volunteer support, training and supervision, and adherence to food safety standards. This hands-on position supports Community Dining, catering and events, workforce development initiatives, and the overall efficiency of kitchen operations in a fast-paced, mission-focused setting.
The Culinary Coordinator works closely with the Culinary Director to support high-volume meal production, maintain clean and organized culinary spaces, and create a welcoming environment for volunteers, students, and community members.
Roles & Responsibilities
Daily Culinary Operations
● Ensure the daily menu is prepared and served on time
● Maintain overall quality control of all food prepared and served
● Assist with food truck cooking and mobile food operations
● Prepare, plan, and support daily special initiatives
● Support efficient kitchen workflows during meal service
● Assist with front-of-house opening and closing procedures
● Assist with back-of-house opening and closing procedures
● Dishwashing, Prep, Line, and/or Expo as needed
Volunteer & Workforce Development Support
● Support and assist volunteers working throughout culinary programs
● Help create a positive, welcoming, and team-oriented kitchen environment
● Assist with workforce development initiatives and culinary training activities as needed
● Model professionalism, teamwork, and food safety standards in the kitchen
Catering & Events Support
● Support the Culinary Director during catering operations and special events
● Assist with food preparation, setup, service, and breakdown for events
● Help support off-site culinary operations as needed
● Maintain flexibility to work nights and weekends for events and special programming
Inventory, Organization & Kitchen Maintenance
● Support inventory management, receiving, and food storage organization
● Assist with warehouse acquisition and supply organization
● Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of all culinary areas
● Assist with deep cleaning projects as needed, including:
○ Line Kitchen
○ Main Kitchen
○ Teaching Kitchen
● Help maintain refrigeration, freezer, dry storage, and prep areas in organized and operational condition
Food Safety & Compliance
● Follow and reinforce food safety and sanitation procedures
● Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations
● Support allergen awareness and cross-contamination prevention practices
● Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary workspaces at all times
● Support ServSafe standards and overall kitchen compliance efforts
● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Minimum of 2 years of culinary, food service, or kitchen operations experience required
● Culinary degree and/or completion of a culinary training program preferred
● Experience working in high-volume kitchen environments preferred
● Strong ability to collaborate with staff, volunteers, and students
● Excellent organizational and communication skills
● Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards required
● ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
● Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
● Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
Working Conditions
This position requires active work in kitchen and dining environments with exposure to heat, kitchen equipment, food allergens, and potential exposure to public and communicable diseases. The role involves standing for extended periods, walking, bending, lifting, cleaning, and food preparation, as well as providing volunteer support.
Pay: $19.26 per hour
